I was viewing the website of Dan "Dimple Chin" Brown and came across this little tid-bit of information about the writing process.

Give us three "Good to Know" facts about you. Be creative. Tell us about your first job, the inspiration for your writing, any fun details that would enliven your page.
If I'm not at my desk by 4:00 A.M., I feel like I'm missing my most productive hours. In addition to starting early, I keep an antique hour glass on my desk and every hour break briefly to do pushups, sit-ups, and some quick stretches. I find this helps keep the blood (and ideas) flowing. I'm also a big fan of gravity boots. Hanging upside down seems to help me solve plot challenges by shifting my entire perspective.

So...Paul, being a NYTBA, why did you not fill us struggling beginners on such secrets? I bet all the cool kids have gravity boots. Koontz, King, Deavers,Preston/Child. And all this time we thought it was hard work!

Hey, what does he do to avoid poor writing and overused cliches?

Maybe he should try electro-shock therapy as nothing else seems to work.

I'm almost afraid to ask, AsMoral, but what the heck is an NYTBA?

Thank you, shocklines. I suppose if your name =has= to be associated with the NYT in some way, that's one of the best.

Thankfully, I can only claim to have been shocked a few times while rewiring some outlets and light fixtures. But, as a treatment to prevent repeats of bad choices and bad behavior, I think Dan Brown should be fitted with a shock collar hooked up to the grammar/cliche checker of his word processor. Everytime he enters a cliche or tries poor writing conventions... ZAP!

At least this part makes sense. I've heard that creative work is often more productive if you do it while your thoughts are still more connected to your subconcious, as in right after waking up.

Of course, with Dan Brown, his subconcious may just be connected to other people's creativity, but I digress.
