I saw Karas, an action-packed SF/Fantasy/Horror anime mini-series, over the weekend. Impressive mix of 2D and 3D graphics make it worth the rent. Actually, what I saw was the first 3 episodes blended into a movie-length show, looking forward to part II.

Rented this last night after reading your review. The 2-D was standard anime but when the 3-D kicked in it was crazy. The fight scenes were pretty killer and the animation was great. I had a bit of trouble following the plot though. Felt like it was moving along to quickly or something but I got the gist of it. I'm looking forward to part 2 as well!! The main battle between Eko and (good guy's name?) should be a visual stunner.

As I understood it, a Karas is a human who becomes an armored warrior when they are recruited by Yurine. Eko was a former Karas that went rogue and they've been throwing new Karases' at him with no luck and that is where the story kicks off, with the latest Karas being killed by Eko only to be replaced by our protagonist.

Definitely some good eye-candy and I am eagerly looking forward to the second half.

Ok. This was my take, and tell me where I'm wrong. With a *SPOILER*...

Yurine is a deity-like guardian of the living, she keeps the balance between the living and the dead who coincide together but on different a dimensional plane, yet she exists on both planes at once. The dead plane has it's good and evil spirits. So who controls the demonic side of the dead, BTW?? Occasionally the plane is broken through by the demonic entities that reek havoc on the living and the Karas are there to dispose of them. I understood that Eko is a rogue but is he on just dealing out vengeance to whomever he sees fit, living or dead? Seems to be on the side of the dead. Yurine's new recruit - I thought it was the guy that Eko killed in the beginning and Yurine brought him back as a ghost Karas of sorts with better powers. (Remember Eko's ruse so they could get to the guy in the hospital who was in a coma??) Wasn't that Yurine's new recruit who was also caring for good ghosts on another dimension?? Now you see where I got so confused. Rolleyes

First, let me say that your memory is a helluva lot more functional than mine. With that, I'd say that you may be right. I believe that Eko draws power from human death, a fact not delivered to him by Yurine. I don't think they revealed what he hopes to accomplish with his power, however. I would need to watch it again without me kids asking me a brazillion questions to answer about the guy in a coma, but it makes sense the way you present it. And I did get the sense that somebody/something was manipulating Eko to wreak all that havoc. Sorry if I've added to your confusion, lord knows I'm confused now.

Sorry about that, Scott!! I'm good at confusing things and moreso at being confused. Rolleyes Maybe the answers will be in the part II.
