What about Gary Sinise? He's pretty nondescript and can do fairly well with rage.

Hank Azaria. Best known for his comedic performances, but then Jack is a funny guy. What makes me recommend him is chameleon-like ability for both his voice and appearance. I always thought he was thin as a rail but after seeing him in Along Came Polly, very average movie, I was impressed by his wiry physique.

I think Peter Krause of Six Feet Under would be a perfect Jack. I began to think this during the last season when I realized how great an actor he is. Plus, I think he would have the perfect ability to blend in and look average.

Anyway, you obviously don't watch Six Feet Under. Last season when Nate (Krause's character) was having the breakdown he showed an amazingly wide range. One particular scene where he lost it and started beating a tree with a broom stick or something was when I inexplicably thought, "My god! He's Jack!". No idea why Jack jumped in my head like that during that scene.

Seriously, I think he would be perfect, but that's just my opnion. I can imagine him screaming in terror and jumping on the back of a Rakoshi. Can you imagine John Cusack or Edward Burns doing that?

No, I don't watch Six Feet Under. I saw the first 2-3 episodes and got bored with it, and now I don't have cable anyway so it was probably for the best. I am a fan of Burns and (much less than most people) Cusack, but I don't know if either of them is right for the part. Frankly, I don't think anyone we recognize is right for the part. They need to find an unknown in the way that Hugh Jackman was found for Wolverine.

Both my wife and I like that choice, despite his giraffe-like neck. When in the hell are they going to put the second season of SFU out on DVD?

Of the two made trailors, I like the Burns one. Sadly I haven't seen either of them on TV, so I can't vouch for their acting abilities. But for me, Burns has more of an average Joe look, I can't say exactly how, and also seems much more self-contained. His eyes are slightly smaller, but they're more intense... I'm probably not making sense. But Jack is so alive in the novels that I can't really pin his looks down on a single actor, strange as that probably sounds. His personality's a lot larger than any of those actors that come to mind have protrayed.
