saynomore Wrote:I will look into "Aftermath." "Dead Alive" is the ultimate mocha, but I wish Peter Jackson would release a DVD version with extras. "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" is very similar to "Hostel" in that tension is derived from situations rather than gore. I stand corrected (except for the guy on the meat hook scene--that was good moch). Re: snuff: Gore for its own sake sucks. Samuel Taylor Coleridge said it best: "Beauty next to the Grotesque makes Beauty stand out, and vice versa" (paraphrased).

P.S. Jack Ketchum writes good mocha. (See: Off Season).

"Dead Alive" definately needs a special edition or directors cut or anything better than that bare bones disk. Yes, I would agree with the meat hook scene, although they stopped shy of showing blood dripping into the pan below, the fact she (thought this was a girl) was hanging only by a hook in the back was enough to make me squirm big time.

Your right about "Off Season". I've been hearing very good things about J.F. Gonzalez's book "Survivor" which was just released by Leisure in paperback. From the sound of the reviews, it's got major mocha going on. Funny enough, the premise involves snuff films. Even so, I'm very tempted to read it based on the sheer amount of positive feedback it's been getting. Theres a thread over at shocklines about it: http://p082.ezboard.com/fshocklinesforum...0278.topic

I went to see this......movie. When I left the theatre I was more nausious than scared. The soft-porn was a nice touch. It wasn't as bad as High Tension. High Tension was just a bad slasher flick. There was no plot, no story. I wished I could have had the two hours I spent watching that back. Hostle was a step above but, I found it dark and sickening.

:p A good horror story will keep you up at night

Man, I thought hostel was awesome.

I'd give it an "A". maybe cuz I didn't expect much, but I thought it actually had a cool story and was very well done.

I liked the guys in the movie. I felt bad for em and was cheering on the last guy at the end.

I loved the wierd, 'walking around' in an unknown place type vibe that it had. And it also had a neat sorta mystery aspect to it.

I say it's easily one of the best horror movies I've seen in the past few years.

I've never seen a more brainless movie. A complete waste of time.

Far out.

I purchased the Hostel DVD a few days ago. Forgive me. Sad

P.S. Oddly, I found a retailer copy of High Tension. To prevent copying the dvd, the movie turns to black and white at various times throughout the movie. I think it's pretty cool when it does that, otherwise I would have ebayed it by now.

I watched Hostel and Wolf Creek the same night. I was afraid that the gore was going to be too much for me to take, but it wasn't as bad as I expected in either film. I actually really liked them both, but I liked Wolf Creek more than Hostel. I thought John Jarratt was oh-my-god-amazing.

How many vikings does it take to change a light bulb?

None. The light from the burning monastery is more than sufficient.

May the Norse be with you.
