I just picked this one up at Blockbuster over the weekend. There's something fundamentally dumb about it, but I just can't help liking it. I think the sheer imagination of a mind that could come up with such polar opposite extremes in Elvis and a mummy (and a black man who believes he's JFK) is amazing. I mean, I never stopped seeing Bruce Campbell as a guy pretending to be Elvis, but the make-up was good and his acting was too. Ossie Davis was surprisingly entertaining- I don't know exactly what I'm trying to say here. It was too far out there to be believed, but I loved it anyway. My wife rolled her eyes in disgust, but secretly, I covet this movie. I think I'm going to start buying books by Joe R. Lansdale until she shames me as much as she does for reading FPW- but secretly... secretly... I'll sneak a line of Lansdale like I was a cokehead.

You won't be disappointed; he is a master of gut-wrenching horror and side-splitting hilarity. My recommendations are Act of Love, The Nightrunners, Cold in July, Freezer Burn, The Bottoms and any of his short stories. He also has a series featuring Hap Collins and Leonard Pine as 2 highly unlikely sleuths, but I've only read a couple of them. And for something that makes the concept of Bubba Ho-Tep appear mundane, check out The Drive-In double feature.

I can't say enough good things about the film either.

I wanted to see this when it was in the theater but never got around to it so I rented it the other day. It was very enjoyable! Even though there is a cursed mummy sucking souls from old folks at the home the movie is more about growing old and being forgotten. Yes it has some camp, yes it has some mild scares, but the thing it truly has is the point-of-view from these old people. It was actually a very touching movie.

Great point about this movie with the point of view of the elderly and forgotten. If you look past the camp and the cheese there is some very touching and sad comments made in this movie. The Elvis voice over really touches on a lot of this.

After several recommendations, I finally saw this one last night. Elvis and JFK were great, but it did slow a bit. I switched to a bit of Tenacious D to get my energy level back up so I could finish the movie.

It's fun, but not an edge of your seat b-movie thriller.
