No, it was excellent. Don't avoid due to the sex, which outside of the first chapter is not a focus of the book, you'll be depriving yourself of a great read.

Sibs is by far my favorite non-RJ/Adversary FPW book. I don't recall there being that much sex in it myself, but I haven't read it in a while.

How many vikings does it take to change a light bulb?

None. The light from the burning monastery is more than sufficient.

May the Norse be with you.

You definitely need to read it again. [Image: n1qshok.gif]

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ... The piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

Sibs is a great read. Though I must point out that the sex in the book is a component of the story, it's not done in a gratuitous nature.

Isn't it unusual though that sex in a book is usually forbidden or restricted, but violence is widely accepted? Sex is a natural, necessary act, but violence is not.

It's similar to what you'll find on TV. Sex and nudity are minimized (especially compared to European TV), but violence is everywhere. Parents get all upset about their kids seeing sex and naked people, but there is violence in many shows, including children's programming.

I find the biggest problem I have with what is shown on TV and in movies has nothing to do with either sex or violence, but with how children are portrayed as smart-assed, know-it-alls. I don't find it challenging in the slightest to keep my kids from viewing anything not age appropriate regarding both sex and violence, but next to impossible to avoid the glib, smooth-talking comedian brat. And with sooooo many kids be raised by the telly, it's only natural that a large percentage attempt to become what they see on it without the benefit of a scriptwriter.

2000? Oh, yeah! I didn't recognize that myself. He he... :p

By the way while I'm sleeping, everybody answered your question. Yes, Sibs is excellent.

LOL! Ok, based on that reaction, I guess I do need to read it again. I will say that based on my memory of it, I've certainly read far worse. Everything is relative, Jimbo. Wink

Well, violence isn't good either...but I'm human, so I'm working on it Smile

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.
