She knows what her father does. And, being a typical "progressive," loathes the idea of free people having the physical means to resist The State.

Well thanks for ruining my theory, Mike Smile I guess thats why you're a senior member and I'm not Smile

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

Nah! Didn't ruin your theory, Tempest--just my own from little hints given in the books. But I'll tell ya how I came to be a senior member. See, a couple years ago, my baby kicked me out on my ass. And I got up, dusted myself off, shouted at the closing door, "A =dog= wouldn't eat your goddammed chili!" And this hombre came out of nowhere--Irish, by the look of him, carrying a doctor bag--he handed me a book. Said, "Take this, brother... may it serve you well." Book was called THE TOMB. Well, sir, I went into Bull McCabe's Irish Pub, had a few lagers, read the book. Knew I hadda join the gang online. Since then, Tempest, I've had a satisfied mind. Yes I have! So there's no secret to it. First, just have your baby kick you out on your ass...

Blast my memory, but have we ever learned (in flashback) how Jack first met Abe? If so, I don't remember. If not, that would be cool....... wink, wink, nudge, nudge, know what I mean?

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ... The piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

Maybe Abe found his fifth harmonic?

Hmmmm, that might be a wee bit difficult because I don't have a baby to kick me out on my bum...unless you count the one who waited for me 22 of the 24 months on my mission, then decided to date someone else, crash my car, and screw my parents out of a bunch of money she'd borrowed from them. Does that count/ If so, I'm halfway there Smile

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, Tempest. I'm at a loss to write something that wouldn't sound flippant.
