Has anyone else seen "Privilege" by Peter Watkins? A near-future British state uses a pop-star (Mick Jones) to control the youth of England. Done in documentary fashion, good musical score (Patti Smith covered the title song on her "Horses" LP)

Watkins did a lot of interesting "mockumentary" films, including an early depiction of a nuclear attack on England ("The War Game") and the battle of "Culloden". His "Gladiators" is nearly impossible to find (I saw it at the 1976 WorldCon and only once on TV since then). As a war-alternative, the nations of the earth select their best and brightest athlete-soldiers to travel across a nightmare landscape on behalf of their country. The winning country gets food, resources, etc., from the other countries. A male competitor and a female competitor fall in love and try to leave the game, and an undercover anarchist competitor goes off on his own to take out the controller of the game. Very frightening ending.

That recruiting film for sociopaths in "Parallax View" was pretty intense.

"Flow with the Go."

Don't know if anyone's mentioned "Wag the Dog."

Any while originally a play, I'd nominate Henrik Ibsen's "An Enemy of the People." I believe none other than Steve McQueen appeared in one of the movie adaptations. Imdb notes that this film received little attention and almost no distribution.

Wag the Dog! I like that movie! How could I forget it?! :o

And, I pick two other political films. "Primary Colors" and "Bob Roberts". Has anyone seen those movies? Funny and brilliant films.
