The longer commercial for it is absolutely frightening. When the words on the screen say that 'this is actual audio from the exorcism' I was so scared I shoulda plopped over seven bucks right there.

I haven't been this exited to see a horror movie since Blair Witch.

The fact that it really happened makes it so much more horrifying. The real Emily Rose looked very innocent and nice. Makes it even more creepy.

What makes this one extra creepy is that a neighbor's daughter is named "Emily Rose." No one on my street wants to see the movie because of that.

Is this actually a true story?

Fargo also claimed to be based on actual events, but that was "creative license." Big Grin

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ... The piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

It is based on a true story. But I do believe they took creative license with the ending.

I can't remember what show I was watching, but they were talking about the actual case and had the entire audio and pictures of Emily Rose during the exorcism. I almost shit a brick. Very scary stuff.

That is not real audio of the exorcism. The girls real name is Anneilese Michel. She was a Bavarian student. The audio in the commercial is in english. But the film does look interesting. If you want to read the real story, read the book The Exorcism of Anneilese Michel. It is out of print so good luck in your search.

The movie is actually about the court case. They're trying to determine if she is actually posessed or has seizures. The movie trailers and tv spots really misrepresent it. I think I'll do the big skip on this one. I'll wait to see how it fares on the IMDB before I waste 2 hours on it.

It was a little more than that. During the Exorcism, The priest on trial for murder/Gross Negligence decided to try to starve the demon out of Anneliese, in turn, actually starving the "demons" host. However, the movie is a very sensationalised version of the book/true story. It is also a courtroom drama more-over an actual horror movie. I am kind of relieved though. How many Exorcist knock-offs can be pushed out by the studios?

*blinks* There's at least one confirmed case of possession at a church in my city. Thing is... if the church was known for a policy of doing exorcisms, then it might have been viewed as media hype. But the church has a policy against them, yet one was performed. All I do know about the situation is that people were very scared during the worship service that the possessed person made trouble at. The name, age, and sex of the person were left out. It only made the news because someone spoke up.
