Hi, folks. As usual, away from the board much too long. Just saw Skeleton Key, a movie that has gotten very good reviews and has been compared with The Sixth Sense for its twist ending. I promised no spoilers so that everyone who sees this movie can decide for themselves whether or not they saw that ending coming from a mile away, as did I. Sub Twilight Zone story, IMHO.

So you didn't like it? I'm interested in it for sure, but so many movies have turned out to be stinkers lately!

I hate all mainstream reviews that give away the existence of a "twist" ending. It makes watching a movie require more effort. I am constantly looking for clues or pointers that will call out the twist rather than just enjoying the ride.

So, knowing there was a twist in this movie, I asked a friend who just saw it over the weekend to tell me the whole story. Interesting, but I'll just be glad I saved my money for another movie.

I did that with The Village. I decided, I'll never seek out pre fim info again. Knowing the "main" twist for The Village made it hard for me to follow the film with suspended disbelief. All along I knew the real deal. I wish I could have watched it that first time (Like with The 6th Sense) completely ignorant. I'm sure I would have been happier. As it was, I liked the film. I really love M. Night's directoral style (even without his signature twists). I enjoy the reduced dialogue. I enjoy the slower pace and tamer acting. He is a great change-up to the fast paced non-stop action of tody's mainstream films.
BTW. I just watched Sin City. I loved it, but was left with some unanswered questions that I was sure would be answered in the end. If they were, I missed it.

I love MNS's style also. All his movies are good/great so far IMO.
I have tried to make a habit of not seeking out info on some types of movies, like these and horror/thriller. Some movies don't matter - what new stuff is Dukes of Hazard gonna throw at you?! :p

Like what? I haven't seen it in a while, but I could try to explain, though not an expert. It certainly is a great movie. I think he plans on making the rest of the Sin City GNs into films. I can't wait.

BTW, if anyone is planning on buying the DVDs of Sin City, I believe they are coming out with a deluxe edition at the end of this year, so don't buy it now.

At last, I saw Skeleton Key on rental DVD. It was very twisted ending. Now I got why you said "no spoilers". So......like you, I don't spoilers to everyone too.

But let me say one thing. Caroline strewed sawdust at a room's front, that scene was really funny! She was serious, but I laughed loud.

I finally saw this movie. I liked it quite a bit, but then it pertains to one of my fears (which also appears in a few FPW books). It also reminded me somewhat of Angel Heart, with the hoodo/voodoo stuff.

Angel Heart....yep! That's it! My favorite horror.

Jim, if you liked Skeleton Key and Angel Heart, I recommend "The Believers" to you. That's another pretty weird hoodo/voodoo stuff.

I really liked The Skeleton Key, but I purposely just watched the movie instead of trying to figure out the twist.

I also really like The Believers. I'm a big fan of both Martin Sheen and Robert Loggia, so this one got a big thumbs up from me.

I recommend "Serpent and the Rainbow" by Wes Craven for a healthy dose of voodoo.
