Susan Wrote:His latest movies are most amusing. He wears long coats and baggy shirts and there's always a guy working in a bonzai garden that bites the dust at some point and of course there's a Buddhist monk, because he's SO spiritual. Plus there are a lot of younger martial artists doing most of the fight scenes. But, I have to admit, when he does fight, Seagal still does a good job. He's a great martial artist. I have to hand him that.

jimbow8 Wrote:Yeah, JCVD sucks ass! It reminds me of a story with JCVD and Mickey Rourke. Apparently JCVD was talking shit and got in a fight with someone. The guy started beating the crap out of JCVD until Rourke came along and wiped the floor with him.

This may be a true story. In JCVD's defense (or not) he was probably on drugs at the time. That'll screw up your timing and skills.

JCVD is a visual treat, but he's not a very good martial artist to my knowledge. I trained with a guy who trained with him in Belgium and he said JCVD wasn't even a black belt. Not that a black belt makes you a good martial artist, but he's not nearly as experienced as Seagal.

jimbow8 Wrote:Like you said, Seagal is more practical. He could kick your ass but it won't look as "pretty" on the big screen.

I met someone who knew Seagal and he said he was a very well-respected martial artist, just a bad actor.

Aikido, the art Seagal practices, is one of the best arts around. It's considered a "soft" style like Judo. In Aikido you use your opponents momentum or energy against them. It's pretty cool, but it takes a lot of skill.
