I agree! "The Barrens and Others" is one of my favorite FPW books.
Aside: I've been inordinately fond of the New Jersey Pine Barrens for a long time. My ex-husband wrote a movie long ago about the Jersey Devil, said to lurk in the Barrens. And I absolutely LOVED the "Soprano" episode where Paulie Walnuts and Christopher were lost in the Pine Barrens. That episode was directed by Steve Buscemi, a great character actor himself.
