Alot of the reviews are from people that already saw it at the Sydney and L.A. premieres.
And why shouldn't it remain somewhat true to canon? It is Star Trek afterall. Sure some things are open for interpretation but some things should remain the same. The timeline change only occurs once George Kirk destroys the Narada.
Either way, like I said, its saving grace is Cumberbatch and he is really the main reason I am planning my R&R for when it will be showing in Qatar. If it was any other actor I would wait for DVD and this is coming from me, a huge Star Trek fan.
Hope you feel the same way when JJ destroys Star Wars canon as well.
