Ah, Sig...that is a horse of a different color. If I'm a guest, I'll damned well drink what they provide, go without, or bring my own to share. And I will do so without complaint.

Same with the food. If I have special dietary restrictions, I'll bring my own food to the party.

It's called "manners", which, sadly, are getting rarer every day.

agreed. Its one thing if I ask "hey what does everyone like?" and I get a variety, but if its just someone that is a snob that doesn't like what I have they can go get their own stuff. Same with food.

That said, I went to a party this past weekend, and the host got upset with me.

He had a 30 pack of Bud Light in his fridge for the party, and I brought a 12 pack of Fat Tire Ale to share.

"Why'd you do that, Mad? You're making me look like a cheapskate!"

I have brewed my own beer and made trips all across the states to try new and exciting varieties of craft beer, but throughout my journey's one of the most annoying persons you can run into is the "obnoxious beer snob."

The funny thing about most of them is that they don't even know half of what they think they do and they lavishly embellish and spread misinformation more often then not.

In any case everyone has their own tastes and idea of what "tastes good."

So having been asked many times what my favorite or the best tasting beer is...

I think most everyone can agree that the best beer is free beer.



Jack's taste seems to be that of discerning and not as much a "snob" in the way that I have encountered. He likes clean and time tested lagers (Pilsner Urquell being the all time classic Czech Pilsner and original "Golden beer"). But nothing so out there or "crafty" that it might be an attention getter. It's a little harder to blend in when drinking Double Bastard or Hop Slam... not to mention the withering amount of alcohol in the bigger craft beers.

I think for the most part it is a matter of personal opinion. My favorite beer is Sam Adams Winter Lager. I don't know much about beer but I know this one is quite tasty. I find Sam Adams line of brews to be remarkably delicious aside from their original Boston Lager...that one is too hearty for my tastes.

But, if I go to a party I don't turn my nose up at free alcohol and I am not one to say "Well, it's Coors lite, I didn't pay for it, but it is simply below my status." Hell no, I'll drink it. I don;t have to enjoy the taste, after a few it won't matter.

There is a new (seasonal) Sam Adams out called Bonfire Rauchbier. It was really good, you should check it out.

I just had one the best beers of my life a couple of weekends ago, it was a Young's Double Chocolate Stout and it was simply delicious.

If they bring it and offer it to everyone at the party then at the end of the party no one has drank it, then I think its fine that they take it with them.

I've been to numerous parties where at the end of the night the left over food, beer, and soda has been free for all. I don't see a problem with that.

I'm guilty as well but only if there is going to be a surplus of unconsumed beer after I take mine or if they didn't prepare some extravagent meal.
