AlvinFox Wrote:That may be the topic for another thread. Are there movies that you feel surpass the source material? Fight Club, The Princess Bride, U-Turn/ Stray Dogs immediately come to mind. Also a whole slew of Stephen King. But that can be for both categories. Stand By Me, The Shawshank Redemption, The Mist and The Shining (Kubrick's version) are spectacular. But then there's the tv movie version of The Shining, The Tommyknockers, Dreamcatcher and The Langoliers.
I don't think anything based off of any of Dean Koontz's novels have been that good. Legitimately or not. (I'm looking at you High Tension.)
This could be three threads (or just one with a scorecard):
1. Movies that suck compared to the book
2. Movies that did the book justice or were true to the source material
3. Movies that took a steaming pile of crap and made it awesome!
Examples:
1. The Keep (duh!)
2. Fight Club (I don't think the movie was an improvement, but a great interpretation)
3. The Lord of the Rings (Yes, I went there. I hate the books, but love the movies)
I also think that Princess Bride, HHTTG and Watchmen would all fall into category 2.
