Another thing contributing to the demise of Hollywood Video and Blockbuster are the contracts with the different cable companies.
I can go to the "On Demand" channel with my cable company, pick from a wide variety of movies, and only pay $3.95 for a one time viewing. However, I can record the one time viewing to my DVR, and then watch it as often as I like.
Beats the heck out of going down to the local video store and finding out they don't have the movie I'd like to see (thereby saving me both gas and time).
