We have threads about books and music recommendations.....and yes we start threads about new movies out.
What we need is a thread about what to rent for a good laugh, a good cry or to scare ourselves silly. Sooooooooo............ta da!....a new thread.

If you haven't added this one to your queue....do so for a good laugh. We were laughing all the way through this movie

Zach and Miri Make a Porno.
While Seth Rogen isn't much to look at....his comic delivery is great! Jason Mewes is hysterical. And for the guys.....Elizabeth Banks, Katie Morgan and Traci Lords......who knew?

The out takes were funny as well. Plenty of laughs......some oh mys!....and one aw....that's just wrong.

Titles some may not have not seen that are definitely worth catching on Netflix:

Comedy:
Whoopee Boys with Paul Rodriguez and Michael O'Keefe...crude humour at its best...heavy stereotype warning!

Dark Future:
Equilibrium passed most people by (not sure why). I myself did not discover it until it was already on video. Think The Matrix only without all the annoying techno-babble. The Gun-Fu (think Kung-Fu with guns) is cool. Kurt Wimmer (Ultraviolet) directs.

Post-apoctalyptic football anyone? The Blood Of Heroes is a great film starring Rutger Hauer.

Unorthodox Romance:
The Upside of Anger can be appreciated by both genders and, despite being snubbed by the Oscars, is a great movie. Mike Binder (Someone to Watch Over Me) writes, directs and co-stars.

Must Love Dogs...ok, everyone has probably seen this movie, but its a great show. As is Serendipity, another John Cusack movie that fits the title of this section a little better.

Holistic Detective:
Zero Effect has actors that you wouldn't expect to be able to pull off an instersting detective story...but it works and works well.

The January Man stars Kevin Kline in a quirky murder mystery.

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang was far better than I expected...if you've been passing it up until now, rent it. It fits least well into this category but it is a good, niorish, amateur detective yarn.

Horror/Suspense (no torture porn):
Event Horizon will give you the heebeejeebees.

Joy Ride is...very disturbing.

Many may have passed on this one due to how AWFUL the first one was but Anacondas: Search for the Blood Orchid didn't suck.

Ouside the Law:
Layer Cake, for Daniel Craig fans, is worth watching.

Midnight Run, underseen by those who were under 19 in the 80s.

Gone Baby Gone, one of the best films I've seen this decade.

enough for now....

OMG, I had such nightmares from that movie. I can never watch it again.

We've had threads about favorite 10 or top 20 movies. Don't know if this thread is to be that, or just about current movies, or about any movies. Who cares? So just recommend movies, silly girl....

I must always watch GALAXY QUEST if I see it on the tube. Must stop everything and watch and laugh all over again.

DARJEELING LIMITED is another recent favorite of mine. I think I've seen it at least 4 times so far.

There are so many to recommend. Later for that.

Reading is freedom.
The mind soars, no earthly cares,
no limitations.

Years ago my mother used to say to me... "In this world, Elwood, you can be oh so smart or oh so pleasant."
Well, for years I was smart.
I recommend pleasant.
You may quote me.

Black Book.

I mentioned this one a few weeks back but it's not getting the attention it deserves.

If I held a gun to your head and forced you to watch this movie you would fall in love with me. Some of it would be Stockholm syndrome and my incredibly magnetic personality. Most of it would be from the fact the movie is that damn good.

Quit pissing me off and watch it. It's on cable.

No need to warn. I saw the trailer about 18 months ago (before it was in the theatres).

Definitely a post wee-one's bedtime flick.

Just finished watching Body of Lies. The more I watch DiCaprio, the more I like his acting. Real tight action scenes and some good twists.

I also added Black Book to the queue, thanks for the suggestion.

The Boondock Saints - Lots of fun, just another entry into the Willem-Dafoe-is-nuts evidence locker

More Rutger Hauer love - Split Second - more interesting in concept than execution maybe, but always a winner for me with the quote that starts "We need bigger guns!"

Brotherhood of the Wolf - Kind of in the Highlander mode of a movie that makes a lot better sense the second time through.

Freaks - disturbing in a way that only the 1930's could bring you

M - The real reason Peter Lorre is too damn creepy. Bonus points if you can whistle "In the Halls of the Mountain King"

The Thing and Prince of Darkness - a great double feature in pervasive horrific mood - John Carpenter is responsible for both, I believe

Slapshot - Paul Newman and the most feared line in hockey, good times.

I've rented it twice and never got around to watching it. I'll mark it down.
