Ryan Reynolds as Repairman Jack is one of the worst casting decisions I can think of. Maybe Ben Affleck would be worse but not by much. I love Reynolds as an actor and think is he is very funny. But he is NOT Repairman Jack. He has the totally wrong type of delivery and I don't by him as a serious badass. There is only one actor my boyfriend and I have been able to think of that would be perfect. Jeffrey Donovan from USA's show Burn Notice. He has the right look and the character he plays in Burn Notice has many similarities to Repairman Jack. He is, in a word, PERFECT! If you haven't seen this show, check it and him out.

Welcome, Brianna. You'll like it here.

Yes, it appears that, despite his fabulous physique, many are souring on RR as Jack.

Unfortunately for JeffD, he suffers from the same malady that Nathan Fillion and a number of other good candidates all have in common. Too many summers.

Jeff will be 41 this year.

Jack is 35 in the tomb.

Filming will likely not begin for 2 years (at minimum), making Jeff 43...playing a 35 year old.

10 years down the road, for the 5th sequel or maybe Nightworld (don't we all wish) JeffD will be 53...playing a 38 year old Jack, in the books.

This stretches my willingness to suspend disbelief beyond the breaking point.

Jeffrey Donovan is a great choice but someone who is 30-33 now would be a better choice because 12 years from now they would be 42-45 playing a 38 year old.

That would prevent a James Bond revolving door for Jack and allow the sequels a decade hence to star a non-geritol taking actor.

Good candidates in that age bracket are...see next post.

Axioms Jack seems to live by (inadvertantly or not):

Why he does what he does: "I chose this life. I know what I'm doing. And on any given day, I could stop doing it. Today, however, isn't that day. And tomorrow won't be either." Bruce Wayne, Identity Crisis

On Rasalom: "Water's wet, the sky is blue...and good old Satan Claus, Jimmy...he's out there...and he's just gettin' stronger." Joe Hallenbeck, The Last Boyscout

Desmond Harrington (Wrong Turn, Ghost Ship, Dexter, etc.)...except for that creeping hairline

...Sam worthington, co-star of Terminator: Salvation and close personal friend of James Cameron...a la Aliens...a la protagonist saves child from ship full of monsters at the end...synchronicity perhaps? But...there are no more coincidences, right?

Both are 33 this summer.

Worthington has definite potential as far as I'm concerned. But my mind has been focused elsewhere this week, having just reread Hosts again. I've been more interested in figuring out who will play his family in any upcoming sequels they could have.

His lesbian sister? His asshole brother Tom? His father who seems to have a slightly mysterious past of his own? And what about Jack's mother? Will there be a flashback to the horrific car wreck that started it all? Jack is supposed to look like his mother, what would the woman who gave birth to the Ally's warrior look like?

I just started Hosts today for the second time...there really are no coincidences.

I vote for Josh Brolin for Jack's older brother, Tom. He's 41 this year, 8 years older than Reynolds, Harrington or Worthington and could therefore pull off the 10-years older brother.

Dominic West might be another good candidate for Tom. He's 40 this year.

A good Kate would be Naomi Watts (she's played gay before as well) and she's 41 this year (Kate is 44 in Hosts). More suggestions to come.

All lovely suggestions. Dominic West sounds familiar, where would I know him from?

He was Detective James 'Jimmy' McNulty on "The Wire" from 2002 - 2008, he played the Spartan, Theron, who betrayed Leonidis by siding with Xerses, in 300 and he was the bad guy who got disfigured and became Jigsaw in Punisher: Warzone (a violent work of art, that flick). My personal favourite however is Kirk Cuddy, lead guitarist for Steel Dragon, in the movie Rockstar.

If he wasn't so old, I'd call him for Rasalom...he'd be amazing in that part.

Jacks' mom is a little trickier.

If Jack was about 20-ish when she was killed (Kate hadn't seen Jack for 15 years in Hosts but he was a senior in college the last she saw him after their mom's death) and Tom would have been eary 30s at that time, then she would be late late 40s - early 50s when the incident took place.

Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio is 52 this year but doesn't look much like Reynolds or Harrington at all...Worthington is a little closer (particularly when he was younger).

If they can find a good actress, the "looks like Jack" thing is not so important to me...just like Kate's hair...supposed to be curly but I'm wiling to watch Naomi Watts with straight hair play her (she's 8 years older than the three frontrunners for Jack, which is exactly the age listed in Hosts).

Although, by the time Hosts is made into a movie, if ever, Naomi watts could easily be 50...so an actress that is mid to late 30s now, perhaps one with curly hair or access to a perm, would be a better choice for 44, by then.

Assuming there IS a Jack movie at some point, I refuse to believe that the Subway Saviour scene won't eventually appear in a sequel.
