OY! Back when I lived at 52 College St. in Brockport, the new landlord came by to inspect his property one day. And let's face it, without a woman's civilizing influence, guys alone live free-and-easy. Barbarian squalor, you might say. So the hombre looks around and sees uncounted empty cans of lager littering the floor, and a thousand books or so. "Fire hazard," he roared. "I'm gonna bring the fire chief around!" Didn't dig his tone too well. So I replied, "Aluminum is not flammable. And if you don't like my books, has the Chief seen the two libraries in town? Dem places is just full of them!" He stalked out, and indeed did bring the Chief around. But by that time. I'd cleaned the joint up, had the place looking good. The Chief saw me at my kitchen table, typing. And told the new landlord, "Your tenant is a college town writer, he needs his books. I don't see any hazard here. Don't waste my time like this again, Eddie."
