I don't plan on seeing Apocalypto because it doesn't really seem interesting to me. I like ancient history, but not usually in movies. It doesn't have a thing to do with the actor or director. I still watched Monster-in-law and Jane Fonda was in it. In fact, I like her in lots of movies, but her politics (past and present) aren't my favorite. Kramer is still funny on Jerry Seinfeld, and I would watch that too, except I don't generally watch comedy shows, especially old ones in syndication.
What people say when they are drunk often reflects their true feelings, so I don't give anyone a pass for saying something wrong "just because" they are drunk. Still, sometimes people say things they don't mean, too.
I'm as guilty as anyone else on that one.
But actors are just actors, who aren't always blessed with top-level intelligence outside their talent (though some are). Who really cares what they say or believe unless or until they prove they are actually qualified on the topic? For example, back in the seventies who would have ever thought that Ted Nugent had a living brain cell in his head? But he does. Just goes to show that you can't judge the person by who or what they portray on the screen or stage.
I know of an actor whose language skills were so bad they dubbed in his voice on his first movie. Now he is governor of California. An actor in a movie about a chimpanzee named Bonzo become President of the United States. A professional wrestler became governor of Minnesota.
When Mel Gibson makes a movie that interests me, I'll go see it. He just hasn't made on of those in a while.
