List the movies you watched and liked before everyone jumped on the bandwagon.

My heart broke when I saw "Boondock Saints" merchandise in Hot Topic. Sad

Another great film I saw before everyone else started raving about how cool it was: Memento.

You mentioned the film in the other thread, I saw Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure at the cinema and thought it was comedy genius, only when the second one came out did the real hype begin.

And Hudson Hawk, comedy gold. I'm still waiting for the public to catch up.

Joking aside, I really liked Mr. and Mrs. Smith with Brad and Anj, but I approached it as a comedy and the quick, sharp, dialogue hit the spot, reminding me of old Grant and Hepburn films. As an action film it is lacking, but as a comedy, I can watch it all day long.

I picked up Boondock Saints at bargain basement price on DVD before it became "cool."

I saw Memento in the theater when it first came out, and I still maintain that it was the best film that year. At the VERY least, it should have won a Best Editing award.

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ... The piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

The King of New York and I might as well throw in Bad Lieutenant. Both directed by Abel Ferrara. Ferrara is the only NYC filmmaker capable of giving Scorcese a run for his money.

I also liked Hudson Hawk. I've watched it many times. And I liked Mr. & Mrs. Smith, never thinking it was supposed to be anything BUT a comedy. Way of the Gun was fantastic and I turned many people onto that movie, too. Ghost Dog is another favorite.

When "Risky Business" first came out, I dragged people to see that movie and ended up seeing it four times, as a result. No one in it was famous at the time and it was a small movie, but great. The line, "sometimes you've got to say, 'What the fuck?'" was one of my favorites. And Rebecca deMornay was just special and unique and different.

"Mean Guns" is also one I like that very few seem to have heard of. It isn't perfect, but I have to watch it all the way through whenever I tune into it. "The Replacement Killers" is another "must see" movie for anyone that likes lots of gunplay.

If I really like something, it usually doesn't gain a wide audience.

I also liked "Serenity," and it didn't get a real wide audience, though it is known fairly well. There are others, but maybe I'll save them for a later post.

I'm going to add two movies that aren't cool yet, but will be, and I can therefore brag that I said it here first Wink

I'm watching Serenity again, so I had to revive this thread. Something about that movie appeals, probably because I liked Firefly so much.
