I have seen posts all about how no one knows who the lady is.

Well, to me it seems pretty obvious that, she is the personification of Earth (Gaia, if you will) I'm not sure how the seperate ladies work into it, or what FPW's exact type of mythology will be, but to me the clues are all there.

Im at work and dont have any of the books with me, so this isn't exact and I probably can't remember all the things that stuck out to me as I read the books, but bear with me.

Examples on why I think this: (just a few off the top of my head)

The Lady has said she is not with the Otherness or The Ally, she just wishes they would both just disappear and leave everyone alone.

The way the Ladies tell everyone that she is their "Mother" (as in Mother Earth)

When they are burying the totem type things into the Earth, she gets wounded on her back.

All this seems quite clear cut to me, and I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone else mention this idea, or have I just missed it? I wouldn't be surprised if this is something everyone else has thought of, I'm new to this board and haven't looked at everything, I just wanted to throw this out there and see what others though.

I think we've talked about The Lady only slightly less than we've talked about what actor should play Jack in the RJ movie. Wink

Most of us believe The Lady to be Mother Earth and the various Women With Dogs as manifestations of "The Lady". Here are links to just a couple of threads where this topic has been discussed:

If you use the Search feature I'm sure you'll find many others - but be careful because a lot of these discussions fall under spoiler threads for just about all the RJ books, including Harbingers.

Very recently I found out that "The Lady" even works as a kind of a substitute religion. I'm not a religious person, and science is a very cold master if one of your loved ones is seriously ill and you feel the urge to pray. There is no God to turn to, if you do not believe.

Suddenly I found myself pleading to Mother Nature for help - and I pictured her as I've learned here: As a woman with a dog.

It's crazy. It's irrational behaviour. I know that. I just found it astonishing what a character in a book series and some internet discussions can do to a person's imagination.
