Excellent point, Ken. I hadn't thought of it that way.

I don't plan on seeing Apocalypto because it doesn't really seem interesting to me. I like ancient history, but not usually in movies. It doesn't have a thing to do with the actor or director. I still watched Monster-in-law and Jane Fonda was in it. In fact, I like her in lots of movies, but her politics (past and present) aren't my favorite. Kramer is still funny on Jerry Seinfeld, and I would watch that too, except I don't generally watch comedy shows, especially old ones in syndication.

What people say when they are drunk often reflects their true feelings, so I don't give anyone a pass for saying something wrong "just because" they are drunk. Still, sometimes people say things they don't mean, too.

I'm as guilty as anyone else on that one.

But actors are just actors, who aren't always blessed with top-level intelligence outside their talent (though some are). Who really cares what they say or believe unless or until they prove they are actually qualified on the topic? For example, back in the seventies who would have ever thought that Ted Nugent had a living brain cell in his head? But he does. Just goes to show that you can't judge the person by who or what they portray on the screen or stage.

I know of an actor whose language skills were so bad they dubbed in his voice on his first movie. Now he is governor of California. An actor in a movie about a chimpanzee named Bonzo become President of the United States. A professional wrestler became governor of Minnesota.

When Mel Gibson makes a movie that interests me, I'll go see it. He just hasn't made on of those in a while.

Barry Lee Dejasu Wrote:...pretty self-explanatory, but for even further clarity: this is a thread for those of us RJ Forum regulars who, despite the infamous *drunken* exploits of Mel Gibson, still find said actor/director to be too damn talented to lose interest in.

I have no idea where this thread will go (at this point it's prettymuch like a balloon that has been untied and left to go on its farting flight in random directions around a room), but I thought in lieu of a pretty successful opening of Apocalypto, Mel Gibson deserves his popularity in this corner of the Internet.

And so...um...there!

I am Mel Gibson fan since "Mad Max 2". Yep, I saw "Mad Max 2" in a theatre with friends. They were amazing stunt scenes!

After that, Mad Max3, Lethal Weapon series, Braveheart, Payback....I saw his movies. Because I like his movies. So I don't care about his personal life. If he can make good movies, that's okay. Wink

His Passion Of The Christ movie was good, I'll give him that.

On a related, but not bearing on what I just said topic, a friend who is the primary manager overseeing everyone at a theater in my city (name won't be mentioned either theater or her name, since she'd probably get in trouble) decorated the Christmas tree in a festive garland this year just in time for the next two weeks.... it was The Passion Of The Christ film they still had lying around in storage.
