Hi, just wanted to make this post to say hi and to talk about my experience with F. Paul Wilson's books so far. Also to ask a couple of questions.
Basically about 6 months ago after hearing murmurs about Repairman Jack from various places, I decided to buy the entire series. I purchased each and every RJ novel, all six books of the Adversary Cycle (which were kinda hard to find) and even the short story collections that had an RJ story (or the "prequel" story to The Touch that is in Soft) in it. I'm kindof OCD about stuff, if I decide to start to read a series, I have to buy every book in it before I'll read it. Although apparently from what I've read pretty much every Wilson story kind of has overtones that relate to the Adversary Cycle, but I've gotten everthing that is obviously related to it.
Anyways, I've been backlogged on books to read for a long time, so I'm just now starting the books. Although I did read both short story collections (Soft and Barrens) excluding the Repairman Jack stories because I wanted to read them within the timeline. I have each book marked in order to read with what short stories to read in between which books (I have the two in Soft and Barrens, the 99cent one I printed off of Amazon.com, The Last Rakosh novella and the story in that new Thrillers collection). By the way, one note about the short story collections - I really don't get into them. Even collections by my favorite authors, I seem to rush through them and not want to read them all. This however was not the case with these two collections. I read each and every story - slowly - and enjoyed them all. Reading his short stories was when I started to realize I had made an excellent choice in buying these books.
So I just started The Keep, I'm about 100 pages into it, and damn I love Wilson's work so far, it's just good storytelling. I plan to read the 6 books of the Adversary Cycle and then all of the Repairman Jack novels and short stories of course.
My main purpose on making this post is just to say how happy I am with the books. Buying all these books were expensive and it could have been a huge waste of money but it turns out I'm very happy with buying them all. Also to kind of get a feel from you guys on the future of this series. How much room is there do you guys think before the Repairman Jack novels end due to them catching up with Nightworld which as I understand, takes place after the RJ books.
I know there is a revised edition of Nightworld but it is in limited print and somewhat expensive. Has anyone read this and if so, what needed to be revised. I have the regular older edition of Nightworld of course and when I read it, will I be annoyed by maybe mentions of dates that were changed in the new edition to make it tie in more with the RJ timeline? Anything I should be aware of as I read these books for maximum enjoyment?
Hope this post makes sense. Anyways thanks for any responses.
