She had a VERY small role in There's Something About Mary as one of Mary's friends. That's when I first noticed her; loved her ever since.

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ... The piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

That surprises me about you Maggers. I remember when I was quite new to the board you got very huffy when I called someone a mentalist (meaning they were mentally retarded). You were outraged that I would malign someone with mental health problems etc etc etc and turned what I said around on me, making me out to be a bigotted sex offender, or something.

Do you remember this? I PM'ed you afterwards saying "No need, no need!" or words to that effect? I wish I could find the thread . . . oh, here it is. Admittedly, I had been a bit of a tool in that thread (Ken V rubbed me up the which-was) but you seem genuinely upset at my 'name-calling'. Which is basically all Sarah Silverman does.

Anyway, I would never have expected you to like Sarah Silverman, let alone consider her to be your kinda gal.

I accidentally dropped a load of worthless change in the street. I was going to just leave it there but a burly policeman lumbered towards me and said, "You'd better pick that up, son."

I hate coppers.

I think Maggers got upset because of referring to someone as mentally retarded. Using the word retarded as a negative is offensive to people who work in the mental health industry.

She wasn't uspet at you for making fun of someone but at your choice of words. If you called them a "fucking idiot" that would have been different.

I worked with children with developmental disabilities and had to pick a few up from schools. When I would walk the kids through the school other kids would shout out things like "retard" and make gestures mimicking their posture and body movements (A lot of the kids had cerebral palsy).

Maggers works in a psychiatric office and sees day in and day out people struggling to cope with the effects of mental illness. So rest assured, Maggers became defensive solely at the choice of word because of its negative connotation towards people with disabilities.

Sorry for answering for you Maggers.

Maybe so. I don't know the PC terminology and if asked I would have said that 'mentally retarded' was a formal description, not an offensive name.

In any case, Maggers got upset because I used language that may have offended someone else (someone with a disbility). Sarah SIlverman's humour is based on offensive name calling - someone has as much control over their colour as their mental health.

It just struck me as incongruous that Maggers would be so keen on her, that's all.

Don't pay attention to anything Tony says. He beat up my grandma (though how she got so young & white and is so happy about her black eye is beyond me).

They passed an old woman who was just opening the door of a brown Cadillac. An old man was already sitting in the passenger seat. The car had a personalized plate with the letters “J-U-S-P-R-A-Y”.
“That stuff work?” Israel said to her.
“‘Scuse me?” the little old woman said, clutching her keys.
“The spray. Does it keep them away?”
“Keep who away?” She looked confused.
“I gotcha.” Israel gave her a conspiratorial wink.

Now that is a great picture. She seems awfully proud of her black eye. That's what your grandma gets for talking back.
