I own a Panasonic 50" Rear-Projection LCD Display. As for HD content, everything looks awesome. But no matter what, your picture will only be as good as your cable/satellite company can provide. Every now and then the HD stuff will artifact and there will be occasional pauses. This is due to my cable company and/or the equipment they supplied me (Moxi DVR). I've had this setup for over a year now and have been very happy with it.
Now, if only we'd get this whole HD-DVD/Blu-Ray thing situated... what a mess that's turned out to be. The blu-ray camp is hurting pretty bad right now, but could possibly make a comeback later this year with the PS3 and better players (although the price's are a major "ouch" factor). HD-DVD had a very shakey start, but they have time on their side to get things perfect. Much like the whole DVD +/- thing, I think the only thing that will decide this war is a combo player.

When I was a kid, I used to watch Hockey on a 9" black and white TV, with no electricity, while walking 3 miles, uphill (each way), in the snow, ..... and I didn't have any trouble following the puck! :p

They also added a red "streak" for slapshot pucks. It was horrible! They quickly gave it up, thankfully.

I saw a commercial on the tube for a company that is selling 50 inch plasmas for $1999, a pretty good deal. The company is called Vizio and CNET rated it the best value in it's class. What did you end up with Biggles?

Nothing yet. The best price so far is the Zenith 50" plasma from 6th Ave. Electronics for $2197 on eBay. It's $2520 at Circuit City. I'm still waiting for the prices to come down more.

I saw the Vizio 50 inch HD plasma at BJ's Wholesale Club for the low low price of $1899. Possibly the greatest deal on a television in the history of the world. Preseason starts in two weeks Biggles. Ask yourself, can you afford NOT to buy it?

I got a big ass 50" Zenith plasma for $2185 at Circuit City, THEN a couple days later I saw an online CC coupon for $150! They gave me a credit for $159 ($150 plus tax). I also will be sending in the Zenith $200 rebate coupon. AND they gave me free delivery! Total cost (less tax but with delivery)? $1835!!!

Good for you, with tv's and cars I always spend a lot of time doing homework to get the best deal.
