Every now and then a film so heartfelt and moving comes about. A film that makes us question our own mortality and how our lives will be reviewed by those so close to us. Every great generation has a movie that attests to the strength of the ties that bind.
This is not one of those movies, but it is pretty damn hillarious.
Die Mommie Die is a little seen screen gem that sends up any melodrama from the 50's age of women in pictures. The film is set in said decade and focuses on aged recording artist Angela Arden. Angela seems to have it all, 2 grown/warped children, a film director husband and a myriad of lovers.
Angela's husband is driving her crazy, she want's a divorce, he wants to maintain the public image of a Hollywood power couple. What's a woman to do? Murder most foul of course.
What ensues is campy craziness at its celluloid finest. Film is played straight-faced amid corny dialogue, hillarious backscreening and some creative costumes/makeup.
"Die" will never win any awards but is clever enough of a trainwreck to keep anyone looking for a laugh engaged. This easily could have been a John Waters film with it's trashy lines, the main role of Angela played by a man in drag, sex, violence and even a mystery to boot!
The movie uses liberal amounts of gay themed humor but it is peppered throughout the script and therefore it is not intended for those with a discriminating palate. But for the open minded viewer who enjoys camp, wonderfully written parodies then this may be worth checking out.
