I've watched two of them lately. We'll start with the better of the two.
First off, a little background on me. I've always loved the original "Jaws". Man against beast movies have always found a soft spot in my heart, especially when they're giants. We'll start with "Rouge".
"Rouge" starts a bit like "Crocodile Dundee" with a big city columnist checking out exotic locals and both end up in "Podunk" Australia. But the hero (also known as four eyes) climbs into a boat with 10 others and goes for a small tour to sample the wildlife but the main meal was to be the scenery. I hate to say too much, and this movie is not that long. The acting was sound, cinematography was excellent, and the ending battle was reminiscent of any knight from King Aurthur's court fighting a dragon.
The second is "Black Water"
Overall it's all right. The actors were convincing, the setting was perfect. It just seemed like they borrowed the scariest scenes from the first two "Jaws", added Laura Croft, and threw in a crock maybe 12 foot long and left most of the plot to women screaming in the trees. The predictability in this movie is akin to a "Star Trek" episode when four people beam down to a foreign , hostile planet. Will it be the three main characters that get killed off, or will it be the ensign we've never heard of before that gets killed? Hum....,
All in all, it's a good double feature. Especially if you love the "Jaws"/"Lake Placid" genre.
Bon appetite!
