Finished watching the first season on DVD last week.

Damn, this show is good. Now I'm pissed that I have to wait for Season 2 (no word of it appearing in the UK yet).

When I first heard the name I had images of a teenage girl solving mysteries on a space station. I had part of it right, teenage girl solving mysteries, but it is a contemporary setting (Californian High School), and has so much more going for it.

As a rule, I'm not a big mystery fan, but this is just so well written, witty dialogue, strong characters, brilliant twists, that I loved every minute of it.

Picked the DVDs up whilst in the States (thanks Marc's dad), and am so glad I did.

Check it out if you get the chance (Netflix, re-runs, or just pay the moolah in sacrifice to the dvd gods, you won't be disappointed).

Season 2 is airing on UPN, I understand, but you should grab Season 1 first, IMO.

Anyone else a fan?

I have never heard of it. I don't think I have UPN, so maybe that's it. Thanks for the info, though!

I've seen a few episodes. It does seem quite good. I've come in so late, though, that the episodes currently running often have elements to the plot that obviously refer to past events I haven't seen. It makes some moments difficult to understand. We're thinking of getting the DVD set, though, just because we've been enjoying what we see. The writing is very witty; the dialogue reminds me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer without the fantasy elements.

That's a good comparison (Joss Whedon raves about Veronica Mars and even did a cameo).

Because of Dave's recommendation I checked out Veronica Mars. I just finished watching season 1 last night and I have to agree... it is a brilliant show. All the characters have their distinct personality, they seem fresh and not carbon copies of other characters, the writing is intelligent, the acting is outstanding, and the twists are logical ones. Nothing in this show really feels forced and the few times it almost feels like it the character makes a remark poking fun at themselves. All these elements work extremely well.

Now I have to start watching season 2. I'm hooked! (And I'm glad to hear there's going to be a season 3 on the new CW).

I found the show when the fourth episode of the first season aired and liked it quite a bit. The network reran the first several episodes at some point and I was able to catch up. I thought the first season was great for all the reasons mentioned. I was a little disappointed with the beginning of the second season - I thought the storytelling was weak, though all the other elements were still there. After missing several episodes I found that things were humming along nicely and enjoyed the rest of the season. I am looking forward to next season.

I'm newly hooked on this as well. There was a lot of hype early on that kind of gave me a wrong impression of it, but I finally gave up on avoiding it and started in on the first season last week, and man! I think I only have four episodes left. I haven't been able to stop watching. Well-written, well-acted, well-paced, and fun without being completely devoid of substance. I'm so glad I finally caught on. Wink

Thanks to this thread, I had been searching for this show for awhile now and I finally scored season 1 from my library. I watched the first three episodes last night and now consider myself a fan. Definitely one of the smarter TV shows featuring teens to come over the tube.

Season 3 has been picked up for a slightly shorter than full season run of 20 episodes. If ratings don't improve in the second half of the season, season 4 may not happen. Sad

If you have a Nielsen box, watch CW (the channel), specifically Veronica Mars!!!

And hear endeth the plug Smile

Dave

PS Glad you liked it, Scott.

While I'm enjoying this season of VM it isn't very good considering the previous two seasons.
