I can't find anything solid regarding whether or not this is a remake or a sequel.

This has been bouncing around for a couple years now. From a recent interview with John Carpenter:

Q: Have you been approached about any other remakes?

JC: Yeah I’m always approached about doing them. I always thought there would be a great remake in The Thing. If you remember there was a comic book version put out by Dark Horse comics that was a sequel and boy was that great. They could have just done that. The way they drew it too was pretty great.

Q: Wasn’t there talk about a Sci-fi Channel movie version of it?

JC: And they have been developing it but I don’t know. That’s been a long time. I don’t know.

I'd be surprised if it ever happens. JC's "The Thing" is my favorite horror film of all time, so any talk of sequel's/remake's/etc makes me nervous. The Dark Horse comics were pretty cool, so if they developed that I wouldn't mind. Just don't try and improve upon perfection by doing a remake... PLEASE.

I was never a big fan of "The Thing". The Carpenter movie I always liked was "They Live"..."I'm here to chew bubble gum and kick ass...and I'm all out of bubble gum." Big Grin

But The Thing by John Carpenter is already a re-make! What are they planning to do? Make a re-make of a re-make? John Carpenter's version was great! Little spider heads! he he he

Actually, JC's version isn't a remake. It's based more faithfully on the book than the 'original'. This is one of those that's either going to be great or suck awfully.

Did John Carpenter say so...? Well, he is "the Boss", if he said so, I haven't objection.

"Rowdy" Roddy Piper added all of those cool one liners himself. They weren't written by Carpenter.

That's from doing all those improv wrestling interviews!!! Big Grin

The Rowdy One kicks ass!!!

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ... The piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.
