Worst fpw dustjacket artwork?!? - SteveBlack - 07-09-2004

I just received a copy of the UK hardback of 'Wheels Within Wheels'. I have to say it's one of the worst covers I've seen for any book!
There's even a credit for the 'designer' of the book on the rear flap - bloody cheek Wink
Anyone have anything to compete for crapness?

Steve
PS fpw - do you have any say in the design of jackets on foreign editions?

That looks like a high school yearbook cover. All it needs is a year printed on it.

I have a copy of Orwells 1984 that looks amazingly similar to that. Don't have it with me but now I am going to have to dig it out when I get home and see if someone actually took credit for the design. Reminds of the old Trapper Keeper folders we used to get here in the States for school.

Truly awful isn't it?
Have you ever seen any of the Victor Gollanz UK editions of Philip K Dick books? They're all very plain bright yellow with red text. I thought they were bad until I saw this today

Keyword: Ew.

If it didn't have the name 'F. Paul Wilson' on it in big letters, and if I saw in on a store or library shelf, my eyes would have slid off it like moisture off an aquatic fowl. It's so... not appealing.

Not the worst cover of a book I've seen, but definitely the worst injustice to an author's work I've ever seen (in terms of dustjackets, of course. The award for 'worst injustice to an author's work' period shall go to a certain movie director whose last name starts with 'MA' and ends with 'NN).

Shouldn't you be doing something to keep your eyes in your head? Big Grin

You know, I've still to see The Keep. From what most people on this group say, it's one of the worst adaptations ever. The more I hear about it, the more I feel I owe it to myself to see it. Is it really all that bad? Discuss..

I like (not love) it, but most on this board hate it, including FPW.

I would, but looking at the dustjacket made them fall out!

Steve, Hi, Nah, 'The Keep' is NOT THAT BAD - yeah, it's a poorly made adaptation of FPW's book, but being philosophical and objective about it, it is NOT really a crappy film - just very poorly handled. It must be in demand though among fans, as I sold a UK VHS PAL original of it on ebay about 9 months ago for $75 - hell, I ain't complaining !. laters my friend. kevin
