A Night at the Museum - Maggers - 12-26-2006

"A Night at the Museum" is 108 minutes but felt much longer. I thought they could cut about 45 minutes, but that would leave it a very short film. I am tired of Ben Stiller doing his Ben Stiller schtick, and he does it non-stop in this film. It felt as though much of the dialogue was ad libbed by just about everyone.

It's too bad. The premise is wonderful and well executed. It's great fun to watch everything in the musuem run amok. But it just isn't enough, and so Ben Stiller runs amok to flesh it out.

Though there are many enjoyable moments, there's just not enough for the movie to sustain itself.

The kids in the theater seemed to like it.

The film has been pulled from UK cinemas

The film needed more Mickey Rooney and Dick Van Dyke. Their comic timing has not abandoned them. Compared to them, Stiller and Owen were forcing the jokes. Definitely a movie for the kids.

Mickey Rooney and Dick Van Dyke (love both of them) OR Mel Brooks.

What about Bob Newhart; perhaps the most underrated comedian of all time.

Today, after I saw The Last King of Scotland, I saw "A Night at the Museum".

What a fun flick! It's silly comedy, but I enjoyed it. Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, and Ricky Gervais who played David Brent in "The Office"......need more? Nah!

First I saw dark mood's movie, so I needed to slacken the gloomy feeling. Big Grin

Stiller and Owen were also in "Starsky & Hutch:the movie". Sounds funny, but I haven't seen it yet.

I like original TV series, btw.

I decided not to think deeply about it, and just pretend to be a kid watching it. made the movie more fun.

Low expectations can be a wonderful thing; I liked it more than I thought I would, although I definitely agree that it is aimed at the kiddos.

Many of his old phone-call standups have not aged a bit. I have a bunch on my ipod and listen whenever I feel like smiling. Like...

The brand-new security guard at the Empire State Building calling his boss in the middle of the night because there's nothing in the manual about how to handle a fifty-foot ape climbing the building.

Walter Raleigh on the phone from Virginia to the East India company in London trying to convince them that tobacco would be a good import.
