Potter / Azkaban - fpw - 06-07-2004

Saw the latest Potter this weekend and loved it. A notable change in rhythm and texture from the previous two (different director) and a darker tone. The cast is holding up well, I think; especially Emma Watson who's turning into a real charmer. Her Hermione damn near steals the show.

I thought this third movie was by far the best of the three. The first does a good job of intoducing the characters and environment, but I can barely even stomach the second one. I liked Prisoner of Azkban a lot. You are correct that Emma Watson is the best of "the three." Radcliffe is also getting better while Grint is watchable again after his incessant whining in the second movie. In my opinion, though, David Thewlis steals the acting honors in this movie. Oldman was also good, but not in it enough to outshine Thewlis.

Oh, finally it is released in US! I wanna see it ASAP too. Smile
The release in Japan is June 26th. I really expect this movie.

I can't wait to see it. Glad to see that some folks whose opinions I trust enjoyed it. Big Grin

Potter / Azkaban - Lisa - 06-07-2004

Everyone I trust is saying it's better than the first two. I only saw the first one and was disappointed by it, so didn't bother with the second. I have the books, after all. ;-)

Book 3 is where the series started getting noticeably better, in my opinion. Hopefully the movies will follow suit.

Saw Harry a while ago and did like it. Rafferty is growing into Potter and am looking forward to the fifth film as the relationship with Potter and Sirius Black will be fully explored (I didn't read the books and have no desire to. Oldman in an interview discussed his role and its meaning)

I have yet to see it, but a friend of mine who's a huge fan of the books said it was horrible. I'm still excited to see it though, as with the rest of them as the series grows darker.

I can't wait to see it either, but I'm curious about the fourth movie, which is also going to be directed by someone else. Is there any reason they keep switching around? I truly hope they'll pull a Kill Bill on the fourth movie, because I worry characterization and plot development will be sacrificed for flashier special effects (as is so typical of Hollywood) if they don't cut it up into shorter chunks.

Could you explain the kill bill referance? I haven't seen it yet. Sad
