Self sufficient Jack - Margery Lurkens - 02-07-2005 They are using superglue externally in the ER quite a bit now, although I am sure it costs about 10 times as much because it is for human use. For a time it was used internally as well, to glue shut things like venous malformations and aneurysms but that has all but discontinued due to complications. The complications were technical in nature (glue going where it wasn't supposed to) rather than any problem or reaction to the substance itself. Yeah, that was him, it was called "Traps". I think he said that was based on a true story. I don't know what a CVS brand is, but the leading human tissue Cyanoacrylate glue before the FDA got snarky was Eastman 910. Ken V. CVS is a drugstore chain, like Duane Reade. They have their own in-house brand of generic health care items, as most of the big chains do. Self sufficient Jack - Lisa - 02-17-2005 It's just regular superglue. They used it for years to quickly patch up sports injuries on the field/court, long before it was "approved" for such use. This occupation is great if you like Razor Blade Slices in your fingers. Being a guitarist I learned that Super Glue is a miracle cure for closing cuts. Burns though. I still cary it around with me in my guitar gear tool box. You just never know when you will need it. I used some about a month ago. (Funnily for Lisa): The first time I heard of CVS drug stores was when I read it in a book while on a train to Chicago. Almost immediately after getting off the train, I saw a CVS drug store while walking around in Chicago. I have never heard of Duane Reade either.... Now I'll probably see one later today. Around me, we have mostly Osco and Walgreens. Self sufficient Jack - Ken Valentine - 02-18-2005 jimbow8 Wrote:Funny thing! In Colorado, the major chain I remember was Rexall (Rx-all), and in Califnordia, the one major chain that comes to mind is Sav-On. I have a shooting friend who is a pharmacist at Sav-On. A small local sorta-chain is Gemmel's Pharmacy. These fine folks gave me a nice discount on Kaye's meds, as Kaye used to be a RN. Saved me about 25%, which amounted to $200 dollars a month. Ken V. |
