It's not too late! FPW could always offer a retroactive fix in the Nightworld reissue!
Maybe as Rasalom grows more powerful, he loses or forgets small things. Similar to The Touch, but on a smaller scale.

The definitive "explanation": Rafe was driving Lisl around, not Rasalom. Rasalom assumes the full identity of the person he takes on, including things such as the ability to drive, to be a woman, etc. As the "real" Rasalom, he wouldn't stoop to such mundane things as driving himself.

Maybe Lisl, in either her innocence, or her penchant for quick corruption, was a rare kind of person whom Rasalom could filter thoughts and abilities from. He was tapping into her brain to use her knowledge of driving to pull it off.
Or.. Lisl's ex husband drove too fast and so did Rafe.. maybe there's a connection there, too.

I don't think anyone addressed the question of Danny, but the answer is that Danny wasn't dead. Rasalom was keeping him alive the entire time. I still get wigged out thinking about that.

Just formatted the ms for the international ebook (I retain all those rights) and made a simple change:
But the first thing to do was remove himself as far from here as possible. He’d need the car for that. He’d only recently leaned how to drive. He’d left home as a child – a very wealthy child who could afford a chauffeur – and so he’d never had a need until his sojourn in North Carolina. But he’d never driven in snow.
How hard could it be? The roads were filled with idiots.
The same will go into the US paperback.
