It's not only the decent thing to do, but having more firepower increases the odds of one's own survival, too. Besides, by the time it gets to that point, the zombies will have probably eaten all the BATFE agents, anyway.

And In THE TOMB it's mentioned that the sign in the stairwell going down to Abe's special inventory says, "The right to buy weapons is the right to be free."
