The Interpreter - Kenji - 05-21-2005 I saw "The Interpreter" in theater, today. This is very intelligent suspense. Sean Penn as Secret Service(He is Secret Service! Gosh, time has changed...), Nicole Kidman as interpreter. They were perfect casting. And definitely it was one of best Sidney Pollack movies. The whole movie had a lot of dialogues. Sometimes I confused it, but I enjoyed it. So far, I saw a lot of excellent political suspense movies. I add "The Interpreter" in them. I thought it was well done, but it hinges on a mind-blowing coincidence (which I thought would be explained but wasn't). The performances kept me involved while I was watching, but afterward I was scratching my head at some plot turns and decisions by the characters. I mean, some dialogues were very short and they spoke so fast. I couldn't follow them. Plot was okay to me. The Interpreter - Tony H - 05-23-2005 My choice for the best political drama/thriller is The Contender with Joan Allen. If you haven't seen this it is a must. Some will say it is boring, but I found it intriguing and overall a well made film. I have yet to see the interpereter, though I will still watch it because I like Sean Penn. He's come a long way since he beat the shit out of Madonna. The Interpreter - Kenji - 05-23-2005 AsMoral Wrote:My choice for the best political drama/thriller is The Contender with Joan Allen. But most impressive was Jeff Bridges. His President role was as good as Martin Sheen in "West Wing". Quote:I have yet to see the interpereter, though I will still watch it because I like Sean Penn. The real star of The Contender was Gary Oldman as the oily Senator. A very good movie. You guys ought to check out Silver City for an above average political drama. Gary Olman deserved an Oscar nomination for that role. The character was SO well portrayed that I utterly loathed him, his acting was perfect. And if you want to see both at the top of their game, check out State of Grace. It deals with the Irish mob in Hell's Kitchen and the cast is filled out by some relative unknowns at the time (1990) who have since become highly sought after performers. Check out some of the rest of the cast: Ed Harris, John C.Reilly, John Turturro and it was during this film where Sean met Robin Wright. I read a few years ago that Oldham was suing the director because the way he cut the film undermined his interpretation of the Senator. He said he gave a shaded performance and the director cut him as a mustache-twirling villain. Can't say. Never saw it. But I will now. I think Gary Oldham is one of th emore underrated actors of recent times. Has played many diverse roles. |
