Reborn *POSSIBLE SPOILERS* - Marc - 05-11-2005

I just finished reading Reborn and am curious about two things. Unless I missed it, is it ever explained why The Chosen are sensing The One? If memory serves there may have been a passing reference with the rationale being because of their faith, but I can't be sure.

My second question is in The Keep it's mentioned that Glaeken felt the powers leaving, and in Nightworld he's trying to signal the powers that be of the eminent danger. Why is it then that The Chosen seem to be influenced by the powers that be if they're truly gone?

I think the rationale is because of their faith, but there have been others throughout the RJ series who have felt The One. They're ususally folks who been touched by The Otherness (think Semilee and her clan).

Are The Chosen influenced by the powers that be or just The Otherness?

I would assume the powers that be because The Otherness isn't out to stop The One.

Hmm..I'm going to have to go back for a "Reborn" refresher. I thought, and my memory is not the greatest, that The Chosen, while appearing as if they were influenced by the Ally or whatever is opposite The Otherness, actually might have been influenced by the Otherness, which for nefarious reasons made the influence look like it was from a benign source.

Am I off the wall here? Very possible....

I haven't read Reprisal in 10 years or so, so I'm not sure if this is explained. I'd read it now but want to wait for the Borderlands edition.

Duh, my bad, Marc. I actually meant to write "Reborn." I don't think anything like that is explained in "Reprisal."

The answers are implicit in the Cycle, but I'll make them a little more explicit as I go.

I reread it a few months ago. Glaeken sensed the Ally influencing the Chosen, making them aware of Rasalom in a manner they could understand and act upon.

Not to mention their creation of the Men in Black.

I am going to stand by my recollections. I had the feeling throughout the AC that The Chosen were being manipulated in some way by The Otherness. But I was never sure of it, either. Very cagey, that FPW.

Must reread the AC.

Did they actually stop him, or help him get to his new body that he could control? Intentional or not, they advanced R----- instead of defeating him. Perhaps he was using them. I was thinking the Ally had left and left the Men in Black here as watchdogs. That would leave the Otherness to manipulate people to it's end. Plus look at all the personal suffering that was created for R----- to feast upon. (humans doing bad things to humans) Good question Mark.
