The end of It's a Wonderful Life. Gets me every time, I'm choking up just thinking about it.

Alfred Hitchcock's Rope. Unfortunately I can't choose a specific scene since this is a flawless film. The subtext, the acting, the camera work... great flick.

The chase scene from Sullivan's Travels. Don't know if this is 1940's though; so I'll add the poisoning of Elisia Cook, Jr. in the Maltese Falcon.

Bogie telling Mary Astor she's going over for the murder of his partner in The Maltese Falcon. (though it is tempting to just say any Sydney Greenstreet scene)

Me too! This is one of my favorite movies.

Favoirte scenes are......James Stuart shout, "MERRY CHRISTMAS!!...MERRY CHRISTMAS!!........MERRY CHRISTMAS!!..." In this scene, I can't stop my tears.

I'll back you on CASABLANCA, but I've got to go with the "Play the Marseillese! Play it!" scene.

And the young woman (forget her name) singing with tears streaming down her face . . . goose bumps every time I see it.

Great song too! About the tyrants foul blood watering our furrows.

Yes! And recall how she was "flirting" with the Nazi officers earlier in the film. Major Strasser was correct in his evaluation of Victor Laszlo as a threat to the Reich. What force of personality! (Which isn't to say I didn't like Rick Blaine better...)
