So there I was.... (not a fish story) :) - flyboy707 - 01-16-2005 So, there I was at a very small airport (currently operated by the US military for Tsunami relief) in Thailand getting some fuel for my plane before the return flight across the Pacific to my base in Oklahoma. As I strolled around the "complex" of US military, international relief workers etc, I happened across an area of relief supplies being re-boxed for distribution. I was taken aback by the sheer numbers of supplies of water, food, clothing etc etc being air-lifted in (24 hours a day by the US military). Suprisingly enough, in addition to the much-needed relief supplies, people across the globe are sending books, magazines, children's books, school books/materials etc. This tent I happened to enter, was the central point for organizing all these books. I was quickly enlisted by this very nice woman from Stockdale CA to help her move two very large and very, very heavy boxes (as my already tired muscles could attest to). As I put them where she needed them, I happened to glance inside one. Lo and behold, the entire top layer of books were F. PAUL WILSON books; more specifically, RJ books. Amazing! What a coincidence! Very cool, eh? [Although, I am not sure how they will help the relief efffort in the destination they were labelled.......it was cool none the less to see them there] So there I was.... (not a fish story) :) - Maggers - 01-16-2005 Great story, Flyboy, I suspected that was where you might be. Very, very cool indeed. Who knows what help RJ stories will be, but they surely can't hurt! That would probably hurt and take forever to eat one! Hopefully they won't be eating them. Do the people speak English where the books were headed? So there I was.... Do the people speak English where the books were headed? Alot of people spoke enough to communicate with us (outside of we military people) where I saw the books, but the places my friends ferrying the supplies on the helicopters were going to places that didn't. I went along for a ride one afternoon and i doon't think they had even seen a non-Asian before. So there I was.... Well, I have always considered myself a bookworm! So there I was.... I love hearing about places I'm not familiar with in a more natural context. Tourist stories just aren't as interesting as stories from people who have actually interacted with other cultures and stuff. So there I was.... Things in Thailand may be bad, but I think our boys are more in need of a diversion. So there I was.... He may still be there but that company moves around a lot. About a week ago his wife contacted him to let him know she wants a divorce. Ain't that a kick in the balls? Yeah, he needs a diversion. |
