The God Gene. Spoilers!!! - icarusflu - 01-03-2018

I just finished reading it. Loved it. Bin the end I have one big question.

Has the good Dr. Wilson recently been rereading H Beam Piper?

Haven't read Piper in ages. You must be referring to Little Fuzzy which I only vaguely remember - but something about deciding whether they are sapient of not. Which wasn't the issue in TGG (but was in the 1st section of Sims). Ain't nothin new under the sun, is there.

Exactly. I was mainly thinking about the fuzzys tool creation and use compared to the dapis use of their spears.

Started "The God Gene." Went to the library on Sunday, and there it was, staring me in the face!

I noticed a similar theme to the RJ canon: No more coincidences for you.

There is Jack Ryan and Jack Reacher, but the first Jack is/was Repairman Jack!

How ridiculous is it . . . Tom Cruise (5'6") playing Jack Reacher (6'5")?

I told Lee Child that his reliance on the Steyr GB in his early Reacher novels as a 9-mm semi-automatic was illogical. They are nearly impossible to find since Steyr lost the Austrian Army contract to Glock in the mid-80s. I had only ever seen one for sale at the Dallas-Ft. Worth gunshow in 1995.

Is it too late to wish everyone a Happy New Year?

Explain yourself, Joe!

I have just finished the God Gene. As expected, it was excellent. I love books that get the science right and make you think. Lots of physicians have written books, but very few (Wilson, Creighton) have the right level of accurate science with a compelling story line as well. The Select was one of the best medical fiction books ever. And personally I find genetics to be amazing and endlessly interesting. Where else can you hear about horizontal gene transfer.? Once we were introduced to a forensic accountant I was hoping to see Benfords Law worked in although admittedly it would have been a stretch. And I think that "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen would have been a better cadence to use when trying to resuscitate Razi.

Now that I think about it, why didn't Keith just say he used CRISPR/CAS to futz with and clean up the genome of some lemur. Stuck in blue eyes cause he liked them. That way he could have stayed alive AND won the Nobel prize.

Sorry, I've been out-of-touch for so long. I have had to limit my exposure on Internet sites.

Also, working 5 days a week and dialysis 3 nights a week takes up a lot of my time.

However, once I picked up "The God Gene," I had to get back in touch. So far, well-crafted, continuously moving plot, great character development (now, I have to get "Panacea"). I hate it when I read books out of order! All the references in this book makes me thirst for the first one!

Best Regards,

NYj
