Potentially stupid question....

I know the new novella The Widow Lindley is available on Kindle, but I can only see it on the '.com' Amazon and not the '.co.uk' one. So - does this mean I can't buy it in the UK?

I don't use a Kindle at all so apologies if there is an obvious solution - I just don't know what it is.

(Just in case you think I'm crazy for trying to buy a story I won't be able to read - I was going to borrow a friend's Kindle and read it on that.)

I don't know if Kindle Worlds is available outside US yet. I'll check.

got a quick response from Amazon:

We haven’t yet launched Kindle Worlds in the UK (for authors to submit their works), however customers can go to the Amazon.com site from inside the UK and buy the title.

I guess that means search "the widow lindley" and it should pop up.

See, that's how little I know - I hadn't even realised that it was Kindle Worlds and not Kindle. And I don't even know the difference!
I say bring back chalk and slate.

That's great, many thanks.
I will get stuck in (tomorrow, probably) and let you know how easy it is for us UK dwellers to get it.

Okay, it turns out that it isn't as easy as it should be.
I tried searching on the UK site but the title wasn't listed and Amazon.com doesn't show a buying link, instead suggesting that, as a UK user, I should head on over to the UK site.
It's possible I'm missing something - like I said, I'm not a Kindle user - so I'll put Wifey on the case tomorrow when she has a day off.

Success!
Turns out the settings need to be changed to 'US Kindle user' in order to buy something from your side of the pond.
I'm sure it'll be worth the effort though. Once I've finished reading Dark City I'll be sure to find out.

Be careful with this, I've heard stories where Amazon will block your account and remove all previous purchases from your Kindle due to perceived 'territorial copyright infringement'.

Really?
(Looks guiltily around room.)
Seems a bit over the top considering I paid for the item.
This is why I don't like digital items. Apart from the obvious 'physical item versus digital non-item' argument, there are seemingly endless 'unwritten' rules to be followed.
Thanks for the heads-up though - I'll be ready to run for the hills if my friend's account gets frozen.

No worry. Amazon has world rights. (Considering what they paid me, they deserve them.)
