USO Tour – Day 1 - fpw - 10-25-2013 10/24/13 A low-key start to the tour. The East Coasters (Harlan Heather, and I) arrived early afternoon at the Washington Hilton. A little before 5p.m. we gathered in the lobby to await the left coasters (Phil from Portland, Katherine from San Fran). But they had baggage delays at the airport so we cabbed out to Fort Belvoir in Virginia to meet them there. After a thorough (and I do mean thorough) inspection of our cab, we were passed through the gate to gather in the USO Warrior and Family Center. There we did a meet and greet with some of the soldiers – both staff and those going through injury rehab. They hail from all over the country. Fred, the USO photographer traveling with us, was snapping away. When I find out where you can see those pics, I’ll let you know. After that we returned to the hotel and had dinner. Kath (who’s done this before) went over what we could expect overseas. But that’s not till Sunday.
