Weird message carved by Navy Yard murderer into the stock of his Remington 1100 shotgun.
I have a possible interpretation that makes SOME sense, but may still be delusional.
ELF stands for Extremely Low Frequency. The Navy's ELF antennas are located in the bed of the Great Lakes. They stretch for tens of miles. They are used to communicate with submerged submarines (particularly nuclear ballistic missile submarines). It takes an hour to send one word.
Alexis was complaining about microwaves, which are at the opposite end of the spectrum from ELF. Microwaves are infinitesimally short, while ELF wavelength is incomparably huge.
Don't believe his brain was affected by ELF, though.

Good guess. It's possible that he just wasn't as technically knowledgeable as you, and didn't know there was a difference.
I heard he wasn't able to buy a rifle. How was he unable to buy a rifle, but able to buy a shotgun?

Microwaves are shorter than ELF (10k-100k km wavelength), yes, but still have a long cycle (EHF wavelength = 1-10 mm). The highest frequency microwaves are around 300 GHz, I believe; enough to boil water but not cause ionization. Gamma rays are at the far end (short of cosmic rays) with frequencies somewhere over 10[SUP]12[/SUP] GHz and ionize like crazy.
But you're right. No radiation with a wavelength miles long (ELF) can have any effect on a living organism.
Why am I commenting? I have no idea. I looked this stuff up recently and want to purge it from my short-term memory.

Different rules for long gunsw vs. handguns and distnction between rifles and shotguns. I believe even felons are permitted to own a shotgun. I believe that shotguns were nromally viewed as defensive weapons. I pointed out in an earlier post (since deleted) that Alexis used an 100 semi-automatic shotgun and not an AR-15 as initially reported. This supports my much earlier stance that a shotgun is far deadlier than a semi-automatic rifle, even with a 30-round magazine.

I want to reiterate, there is absolutely no discussion of a political nature allowed on this message board anymore. We have proven, historically, that we are unable to conduct ourselves in a manner conducive to such discussions.
I was fine with the more vague discussion of the science behind long range and short range frequencies and the effects on the human brain.
It is not okay to turn it into a topic to further a personal viewpoint on a hot button issue about gun rights and gun free zones, etc...

I'm glad to see the occasional return Joe. Thanks for spurring some thoughtful exchange of information.
I also agree that a little less political agenda is a nice thing. Discussing guns is fun ( a favorite topic for me). Discussing whether or not I should be allowed to own or carry guns just pisses me off.
