Jack's movie - morsala54 - 05-25-2012 Hollywood has put everything else on the big screen. WHAT is taking so long for a Repairman Jack movie? Sure, lots of stuff from The Tomb (a title I never understood) needs to be cut but for pure action, chills and thrills it would be up there with any of the great action/horror flicks. One of THE coolest literary characters needs some serious recognition. p.s. Any RJ fans in Rochester, NY? If you look around the site you will find a million different "Who Should Play Jack" threads as well as a running log of Paul's on-again/off-again love affair with the Hollywood machine. Beacon films owns the film rights but apparently they just can't get it done. During their last talk they discussed going the route of a TV series for cable. But that too remains to be seen. As for the title of "The Tomb", it has confused many a reader. It was piggybacking on the success of The Keep. Paul wanted to name the book "Rakosh" but the publisher nixed it and said they wanted a title with a definitive article like "THE Keep" so Paul suggested calling it "The Rakosh". The publisher suggested "The Tomb" and when Paul pointed out to them that there is no tomb in "The Tomb" the publisher said it was okay, readers wouldn't notice. We see how that turned out. As a sidenote, Paul finally got to release the book as "Rakosh" for the Borderlands Press limited edition release years later. Welcome to the board. Don't be shocked if you see FPW reply to some of your posts, he is kind to his readers. It's a long arc that requires a lot of explanations and time changes. If we get just a stand alone Jack movie or series, I think we miss out a lot on what makes Jack, Jack. As for never being made, I (and virtually everyone else on this board) would love to see the movie made if for no other reason than that it would be a hearty and well deserved pat on the back for our favorite author. It would also create more enthusiasts for Paul's books. Let showtime do it cause they they dominated Pillars of the Earth Jack's movie - somevelvetmorning - 05-28-2012 i strongly agree with the tv series approach, maybe ending with a film version of "nightworld" Jack's movie - Dave618 - 05-29-2012 The Repairman Jack saga would make a great cable series or series of films. The Tomb, by itself, would make a great standalone film. The sequels and further information and storylines make the series richer, no doubt, but The Tomb in and of itself has everything it needs to make a wonderful, exciting film. It has a cinematic quality to it, with scenes and images that'll stick in viewers minds long after they leave the theater. That said, I'd opt for the cable route. Maybe an 11 or 12 episode season condensing two of the books in it, maybe three. The cable route allows the filmmakers to really delve into the source material and explore storylines and characters a big screen film would not, or at least not as thoroughly. HBO has contracts with so many writers for projects in development--many of which, unfortunately, won't be made--I'm surprised FPW's film/TV agent hasn't made any headway in that area. I don't mean idle interest on behalf of a network--I mean actual moolah for FPW to develop the project.
