I know we have some Kindle owners here, I could use some advice. We just picked up a Kindle keyboard with 3G for our grandfather for Christmas (my only black Friday purchase, but a great price). I think he will like the adjustable text size, the ability to have the text read to him, and the ability to download anytime. I have picked out a case already, the eco vue by mar ware so he can use the hand strap instead of having to grip it since he has arthritis.
My question is are there any other accessories that we should consider adding? I do not have a Kindle, I have an iPad to read on so I have never seen a Kindle other than online. Are the lights something most people need? Are there any other items that are very useful?
Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I love my Kindle. I actually decided not to get a case or light for mine. With my arthritis its very comfortable to hold just the way it is so I didn't want any bulk added to it. The hand strap sounds interesting. I don't think I've ever heard of that. I think you would need a light if he'll be reading somewhere without good light. The screens are not backlit at all. Be sure to use the free book downloads. I download stuff all the time. I don't know when I will possibly read them all but I have discovered some great new authors that way. This is the best website I've found to look up the free downloads on Amazon by genres. Last spring I was shopping for something else at Best Buy and came across a Kindle case that folds into an upright stand. I've found it really handy to set it on the snack tray in flight.

Thanks for that link! If he wants to brave the computer, i'm sure that will be handy! Think I might check out the available lights, just in case. The case I picked out is made by Marware. I have an iPod case that I absolutely love from them, and they have great customer service (got the CEO hybrid for my iPad).

My iPad case does that and it's fantastic! I suspect he will need to have the font decently large, so will need to do frequent page turns. I'm not sure if the dexterity required to turn the page while not knocking it over will be an issue. Think i'll scope out some alternatives in case I need to exchange for a stand case to be safe.

Well, he would not be medically cleared for any type of long distance travel even in a car, but that makes two votes for a light. Better take a look!

I bought the standard amazon cover. But it was plain black. But I found a shop that makes cloth covers that fit over the cover.
Eyecacther.com http://eyecatcherbags.com/store/page10.html they make purses, eyeglass cases,etc. But enough people have special order for kindle stuff they are now a regular product.

Actually, I always recommend authors I know to friends if I think they might like the book, and occasionally to strangers lurking near my friend's books in a store, but not in a creepy way
mile: This particular person reads mostly nonfiction history and political type stuff. And he's very stubborn.I'm not so good at figuring out what stuff is similar to. What types of authors or books would a person that likes your book typically read?

Gawsh, now I’m a little self-conscious, but never miss an opportunity, right?
I’d say Brian Keene or Max Brooks simply because half of the stuff I have out is zombie-related. But my first novel may be reminiscent some of David Wong’s John Dies at the End.
But I'm working on a couple things that don't read like anything else. Just ask Medusa!
