Staff Recommendation - Scott Miller - 12-22-2010
I stopped by my local Borders yesterday, made my way to the horror section and was pleasantly surprised to see that a staffer had selected FPW as a recommendation. They provide a little tag and this one read "Repairman Jack Rocks! The Tomb is the first book in the series." I'm going to see if I can figure out who it is.

If I'm successful I sure will.
This got me thinking of the release of the revised Nightworld; will it be advertised as an RJ book? I can imagine that people who have only read the RJ books being confused at the other cast members in it.

I hope FPW reads this, though I'm not at all sure what he could do about it, but the last time I saw one of his books on the shelf in a UK bookshop it was The Tomb. Never seen one since that was published and the only other one I ever saw was The keep. Needless to say (!) I bought both of them but just assumed he had stopped writing or something until I went to the USA and, in a Chicago airport shop, found a whole shelf of the books!It says something for his skill as an author that after all that time I actually remembered him and I bought All The Rage.
Since then I have bought most everything published (certainly all the RJ and Adversary ones) but always on-line. It does strike me that a shed load of UK sales must be missed just because the average book-browser in a shop doesnt see the books. I find Amazon and the rest a rubbish way of buying if you don't already know what you want, I like to pick up a book and leaf through a few pages before buying, or not as the case may be.

That happened to me in reverse..almost..when I first started reading David Gemmel years ago, found Legend here in the states and then could never find another book by him until I was visiting the UK and then I found a whole shelf of his books. Bought everything I could find. Now though I can find his stuff in any US bookstore.

Much better, my brother, is to go to your local B&N, ask for the manager, put your gutting knife to his/her throat and ask sweetly, "Why no Paul Wilson?"

Legend, one of my all-time favourites. Strangely I have never got around to reading anything else by him. Just struck me (reading your bit) how dumb that is! Must get on it soon.
