Thoughts on Legacies - cvbronxsta - 04-06-2010 Just finished reading Legacies - now my favorite RJ novel (I've read them out of order). It's tied with Harbingers for my number one RJ book. The book has such much action (love the part in his booby-trapped house). 2 things: 1. Where there any connections to the other books (beside Milkdud (mentioned in Criss Cross) and Yoshio (his brother was in By The Sword))? 2. Did anyone see the South Park reference on pg 416 (paperback) when Jack kills the bad guy named Kenny and one of the bad guys says something: "Kenny! Oh christ, he killed Kenny!" Anyway, loved the book. Can't wait to start Conspiracies Thoughts on Legacies - fpw - 04-06-2010 The townhouse Jack "sells" appears in Sibs. Thoughts on Legacies - Towka - 04-07-2010 Well, some things that come to my mind are: - Alicia Clayton reappears/is mentioned in "All the Rage" as a friend of Nadia. As you haven't read Conspiracies:
- I think it was at least hinted that Claytons Wifi-energy-thingy had to do something with Nicolai Tesla, whose other supernatural construction plays a major role in Conspiracies.
Minor connections - The Nail, the guy who once tried out for Polio, the best whatever-band in the world, stole the truckload of toys in "Legacies". Polio is mentioned in at least one other (more recent?) book. - Gia continues working in the hospital, sometimes takes Vicky to work (I think at least two other books, with approaching 15 books it all starts to get a little fuzzy). Once Jack visits her there again, I think. - The Japanese company behind Yoshio is mentioned again in the LaNague-series. That's all I can think of now. I shall have myself a FPW-festival to refamiliarize myself with the grand picture - but where to start? Thoughts on Legacies - Bubba - 04-07-2010 "I could sleep for a year - at a Polio concert" - "the loudest thrash-metal band he knew" - RJ after being thrashed by the Black Wind at the end of By the Sword. That is when Jack and Milkdud are talking in the restaurant, Milkdud talks about Snake in "Deep as the Marrow", (but not by name) but it also ties that book in as well. It makes me wonder why FPW uses that band in so many books...... Thoughts on Legacies - Ken Valentine - 04-09-2010 KRW Wrote:It makes me wonder why FPW uses that band in so many books......:confused:I wouldn't know as I have never heard them, but as speculation, I would imagine that it may be a band that would be really irritating to some. And (to me) RJ's mention of sleeping through one of their concerts would be equivalent to saying that the most horrendous and irritating noise he could think of (a Polio concert) would be nothing compared to the horrific noise of the Black Wind. Maybe I am missing something but I am pretty sure Polio is a creation of Mr. Wilson. Fictional, if they are real, then bugger me. There are a bunch of bands who have done songs named "Polio" but no bands by that name that I am aware of. I think your right about the context in which they are mentioned in the quote though. Polio is a big, popular, in my mind, thrash band. So it only goes to reason that people all over the world FPW has constructed would know who they are. Thoughts on Legacies - fpw - 04-09-2010 The punk aesthetic is to choose a name that would offend so-called straight society. Naming themselves after a virus that kills and paralyzes children seems perfect. They were also mentioned in "The Last ONE MO' ONCE GOLDEN OLDIES REVIVAL" and also in THE TOUCH and SIMS. I'd guess they're a punk thrash deathmetal band - they ride whatever underground trend is hot. They're total whores and call their series of apings "phases." Their muse is crank. |
