Bestseller Question - C. Bryan Brown - 08-24-2009 Hello - new to the board, fan of The Man (as I see he's called here, which is as it should be, of course). I was perusing the site and came across Mr. Wilson's explanation of what makes a bestseller, aka velocity. I've recently purchased a Kindle and I see that Ground Zero will be available. My question is whether or not the Kindle sales are taken into account the same as any other pre-order or actual book sale from like a B&N, Borders, Amazon.com, etc. Anyone know? I'm just curious since the Kindle technology is still fairly new and just starting to take off. I apologize if the question has been asked (and subsequently answered) elsewhere on the boards; I haven't had time to read everything yet. Thanks! C. Just a word of advice. Better read it quick when you do get it, before Amazon deletes it remotely from your unit (see 1984 thread). -Wapitikev Bestseller Question - murelz - 08-25-2009 As it stands right now, the only major media outlet that tracks bestsellers using both physical and kindle versions is USA Today. As far as I know the New York Times list still only applies to physical copies. USA Today just began to apply kindle sales about a month ago. Oh and btw welcome to the site C! Can't swear to it, but I believe 1984 was deleted due to a rights dispute from the estate. But the fact that they can if they want to is way too 1984 for me to ever consider buying one. -Wapitikev Bestseller Question - C. Bryan Brown - 08-27-2009 Thanks for taking the time to read and answer. I'm sure everyone is busy, especially Mr. Wilson. Like I said, I was curious. I actually like the Kindle quite a bit for convenience (I no longer have to carry a thick dictionary, thesaurus, etc) but it certainly lacks in the "sharing" department. I can no longer give my "old" books to my friends to read with the disclaimer "Dude, yer gonna looove this author" (which, is how I was introduced to The Man way back when) or sell them back for credit to buy even more books. The Kindle certainly represents change, but maybe not progress? Thanks again, everyone! C. Bryan Brown Bestseller Question - Silverfish - 08-27-2009 Welcome to the board.
