No love for Meatloaf - Alvin Fox - 10-10-2008

I've been thinking about this for awhile but keep forgetting to ask about it. In one of the RJ books (I forgot which one) one of the regulars plays Meatloaf on the jukebox. This ticks Jack off and he unplugs the juke. I was curious if this was a reflection of The Man's feelings. And if so what did The Man think when he heard that Meatloaf was going to be in Pelts? Anything along the lines of 'I hope he didn't read that book' or 'That was Jack, not me.'?

Funny you say this. I just bought Pelts for five bucks at Walmarx the other night and was thinking just that.

Maybe Meatloaf was the guy in the rubber Rasalom suit, and FPW holds a grudge....?

I'm glad they're long because that gives me enough time to finish a bottle of wine to go with all that cheese.

I enjoy Mr Aday's music, and yeah, some of the songs are a bit long. Especially the signature song, because that's about the only one played on "Q104.3 New York's Only Classic Rock Station" (it isn't, but the other one also has disco) claiming the largest music collection around (but they have a ridiculously small playlist -- farz I can tell, they think "Werewolves of London" is the only song Warren Zevon ever sang -- oops, they pair it with "Excitable Boy" on Tuesdays).

Warren Zevon (and Meat Loaf -- check out "Bat Out of Hell 3 -- The Monster is Loose") done a lot of good stuff. Radio stations are starting to suck (actually, they always did, ever since the FCC was formed). So, old as I am, I'm starting to use youtube a lot (they've got the original version of "Lawyers, Gun's and Money" with the stanza that wasn't approved for airplay, wasn't on Hank William Jr's cover and wasn't on my Warren Zevon's Greatest Hits CD):

I'm hiding in Honduras
I'm a desperate man
Send lawyers, guns and money
The shit has hit the fan.

I went home with the waitress
Like I always do
How was I to know
She was with the Russians too?

It's "The way I always do". Honest, I was listening to it a few hours ago, with youtube in another Firefox tab.

"And if California slides into the ocean
Like the mystics and statistics say it will
I believe this motel will be standing
Until I pay my bill."

From "Desperadoes Under the Eaves". Stanza spent most of a year as my email quote backalong. Youtube doesn't seem to have any Zevon performances, though there are several covers of the song.

Of course, my favorite Zevon song is "Play It All Night Long". But that's one that could never get any play on radio. FCC Delenda Est.:mad2:

Have you read the Warren Zevon bio? I'm not sure I'd pick my ex-wife to write my posthumous biography, but interesting. I've always been a huge Zevon fan.
